Nature as Refuge & Healing Spaces
One of the most significant milestones of 2025 was Streetlights Uganda's collaboration with The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health.
Through this initiative, twelve beneficiaries—ten boys and two girls—produced a total of fifty artworks exploring themes of nature as refuge and healing spaces. From this collection, twelve artworks were selected to feature as journal covers in 2026.
The January 2026 issue features artwork by fourteen-year-old Kiyingi Joram, titled Healing Spaces. The piece depicts small houses in Bwaise as places of safety and hope, reflecting his lived experience of seeking refuge during his time on the streets.
Commitment to Creativity
Despite ongoing funding gaps, mentorship for this collaboration continued through a combination of in-person and virtual sessions led by professional artists and our team leader.
Some classes were conducted late at night to accommodate different time zones, demonstrating a deep commitment to sustaining creative engagement.
This collaboration was made possible through a recommendation and we are truly grateful to all that share our work, a strong reminder of the impact of collaboration and networking. A special thanks to all who made this possible.
